Day 02 - your favorite movie

Okay, here is what I am excluding from this one: Sagas and series. Sagas are long chains of movies that tell an overarching storyline. Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, ect. I'm not going to include those because it's impossible to judge each chapter fairly and putting 3-7 movies against one isn't a fair match up. Series are movies that get sequel after sequel but without the fore planing of a saga. So that is MOST of the movies I watch really. What do I have left? Well a movie I have watched countless times, that is universally considered a classic, and gave birth to my favorite genre. And it never really had a technical sequel, though it spawned alot of wannabes.

The original 1931 Dracula for universal studios. Horror movies had existed in the silent era (indeed many of my favorites are silent) but Dracula launched a new age of Horror films proper, to american audiences, in sound, and with clear and unmistakable supernatural forces. Bela Lugosi gives the performance of a life time as Dracula, and countless motifs of gothic horror are established. In my mind the greatest horror film of all time.

Day 01 - your favorite song (ten days later...)

Okay so I'm ten days late but what the hell, better late then never. Kris cheated a bit on this one and posted three songs so I feel justified in doing the same. I won't break it down by genre since all three fall into roughly the same one. 1980's post-punk/new-wave/goth what ever you want to call it. These songs aren't even really my favorites... but it would be hard to imagine life, or my musical taste, without them. In no real order.

"Love will tear us apart" by Joy Division.

When the routine bites hard
and ambitions are low
And the resentment rides high
but emotions won't grow
And we're changing our ways,
taking different roads
Then love, love will tear us apart again

Why is the bedroom so cold
Turned away on your side?
Is my timing that flawed,
our respect run so dry?
Yet there's still this appeal
That we've kept through our lives
Love, love will tear us apart again

Do you cry out in your sleep
All my failings exposed
Get a taste in my mouth
As desperation takes hold
Is it something so good
Just can't function no more?
When love, love will tear us apart again

This song is one of the first and only songs I've heard that speaks to nature of romantic love as I've known it in my own life: a destructive force that overwhelms and consumes people, leading them to irreversable ruin.

"How soon is now?" by The Smiths

I am the son
and the heir
of a shyness that is criminally vulgar
I am the son and heir
of nothing in particular

You shut your mouth
how can you say
I go about things the wrong way
I am human and I need to be loved
just like everybody else does

I am the son
and the heir
of a shyness that is criminally vulgar
I am the son and the heir
of nothing in particular

You shut your mouth
how can you say
I go about things the wrong way
I am human and I need to be loved
just like everybody else does

There's a club if you'd like to go
you could meet somebody who really loves you
so you go, and you stand on your own
and you leave on your own
and you go home, and you cry
and you want to die

When you say it's gonna happen "now"
well, when exactly do you mean?
see I've already waited too long
and all my hope is gone

You shut your mouth
how can you say
I go about things the wrong way
I am human and I need to be loved
just like everybody else does

This has been used as the theme song to many shows and movies including Charmed and Queer as Folk. There is so much depth to the song I could write about it for hours so I'll just let it speak for it's self.

"Lovesong" by The Cure

Whenever I'm alone with you
You make me feel like I am home again
Whenever I'm alone with you
You make me feel like I am whole again
Whenever I'm alone with you
You make me feel like I am young again
Whenever I'm alone with you
You make me feel like I am fun again

However far away I will always love you
However long I stay I will always love you
Whatever words I say I will always love you
I will always love you

Whenever I'm alone with you
You make me feel like I am free again
Whenever I'm alone with you
You make me feel like I am clean again

However far away I will always love you
However long I stay I will always love you
Whatever words I say I will always love you
I will always love you

I feel this way about someone I will never see again. Which probably explains why all my favorite songs are 20 years old and super depressing and by bands that no longer exist. Now go out and enjoy the sunshine people!

Something Something Bahamut Something?

Okay, I won't abandon this blog just yet!  Found out an interesting site that has a count down clock for a new Square/Enix Game about bahamut.  Looks like A Final Fantasy spin off for the DS, lets hope we see this come out in the US soon.  The artwork on the site looks amazing, I suggest any FF fans check it out.

Starting out with Google

It's my First time using Blogger in about 2 years, having abandoned my old blog in September 2006, I decided to try and find it again today. Since Blogger/blogspot has been bought up by Google in the meantime that means I finally managed to get around to opening a Google Account.

Interestingly enough Google now wants you sign up using a pre-existing e-mail account, before you can make a Google Account, which you can then use to make a Gmail account, which you can then replace your other email address as your sign in with. Anyone else dizzy?

What's really funny is that I used my Yahoo! address to create my Google Account, so Google sends a confirmation e-mail to my Yahoo! account. But when I check Yahoo! mail there is nothing in my inbox. Well, there is but its from Obama trying to sell me lawn signs. But I do have new messages in my Spam box! Yeah, Yahoo! marks incoming Gmail verifiers as spam. That made my day. Rivalry much?

So on to Blogger where I have to make a sub account, fun, fun, fun. Still have yet retrive my old blog but I wanted to get a post out of the way to try and test some of the new features out, see if it was worth my time. This just might become my new off site blog from now on.

We shall see.
